I love fast-drafting even though what I’m doing could be more aptly described as ‘faster-than-usual-drafting.’ Also, I haven’t quite mastered the whole ‘not looking back’ part of the equation but either way, there’s something seriously liberating about this approach. It’s like I’m being lead around by the nose by someone else to get from plot point to plot point which is exciting and often times, pleasantly surprising.
I also think it’s producing some of my strongest writing yet, but that just might be false confidence born of the enjoyment I’m having writing it. I can’t be the only person who tricks my brain into believing that if it feels amazing to write what I am writing, it is so obviously amazing writing. Actually, my writing confidence goes in stages with my novel like so:
EVERYTHING I WRITE IS AMAZING
EVERYTHING I WRITE IS TERRIBLE, WHY WON’T IT DIE
And finally evening out into a neither over-confident nor falsely modest…
