Danette tagged me for a List Five Random Things About Yourself meme, which is good because a blog-update was overdue and I seriously had no idea what to blog about. I almost blogged about walking to my Grandma’s to watch Survivor with her and having to turn around and go back home because it was too cold but I’m trying to pretend it’s not winter right now so I didn’t. Anyway. Thank you, Danette!
Five Random Things About Me
01. When I was younger, I had a horrible fear of natural disaster flicks/television specials and speculative disaster flicks/television specials. That included anything about tornadoes, space rocks hitting the earth, hostile alien takeovers and yep… volcanoes. YOU WOULD HAVE NEVER GUESSED THAT, ADMIT IT. I don’t know how I grew out of it but it’s safe to say that I did. Minus hostile alien takeover flicks. Still not really keen on those.
02. When I was too young to know better, I was so afraid I would invoke Candyman, I covered all the mirrors in my room with blankets. I have my sister to thank for that. Thanks, BB! It’s a good thing you told me about Candyman! I could have gone my WHOLE LIFE without knowing about him! PHEW!
03. I’m afraid of being upside down, which is pretty awesome. It got me out of gym class in elementary school! And when it didn’t, my mom’s notes exusing me from gym did. Win-win.
04. The other night I had a dream that I was losing my hair. It stuck with me all day after I woke up. Dream Courtney was very upset about this turn of events. She kept washing it over and over and over and then pulling at it to see if any would come out. It was surprisingly distressing!
05. My favourite character in For Better or For Worse is Therese, Anthony’s ex-wife. She did a far, far smarter thing than Liz will ever do: leave Anthony.

EASY. Okay, so. Anthony is in love with Liz, which he flaunts in front of Therese ALL THE TIME, thus rendering her insecure (with good reason, obv). AND THEN, okay, ANTHONY BULLIES THERESE INTO HAVING A BABY. Therese says no no no no no no no no (because she knows Anthony loves Liz) and then she finally says FINE DAMMIT I WILL HAVE YOUR BABY if 1) you stay at home with it and 2) be it’s primary caretaker. I mean, obviously it wasn’t the BEST choice she could’ve made but whatever, Anthony’s a douche. AND THEN, okay so she has the baby right? Then she has MASSIVE POST PARTUM DEPRESSION and Anthony couldn’t care less. And it doesn’t matter because he loves Liz. So basically poor Therese is a victim of Anthony and Liz. And so is her daughter but they’ve got it all cleverly looking like it is Therese’s fault. Sorry Anthony and Liz! You did this to little Francois! So yeah… I don’t blame Therese for being unattached to a daughter she didn’t want to have and was bullied into having and reminds her of her stupid husband. I think her story is way more interesting than Liz/Anthony’s. Therese rules!
Yeah, I didn’t want to mention Bloody Mary or Tremors because I don’t want to sully your reputation as a nice big sister. ON THE OTHER HAND, you did put a sucker in my stocking and told me it was Santa when I was young so that works out.
And HAH, you APPRECIATE IT NOW but you didn’t then totally. :) You were mad at me cause I wussed out!!
ALSO, Therese is constantly made to look like the villan of the collapse of the marriage, her lack of being a good mother but Anthony and Liz are completely and totally absolved of their roles in it and it disgusts me.
I read this journal that crits FBorFW and they call The Patterson’s The Pattersaints, since they can’t do ANYTHING WRONG. And it’s so true.
I wish I could stop reading it but I AM SO INVESTED. SIGH.
From what I read in the comics (I went on a bender awhile back) it was Therese’s parents, not Anthony, that wanted her to have a kid and live a “normal” life, so you should really hate them too.

IT WAS ANTHONY. Mostly Anthony. He ganged up on her with them. Lynn J just retconned and added the bits about her parents because she knows people hate Anthony (for good reason) and wanted to make him look like it wasn’t his fault but instead of distributing some of the blame to Liz or at least have Anthony acknowledge that he’s a douche, she gave it to Therese’s parents. This is stuff that NEVER came up at the time of the strip and IMO, it was an attempt to just make ppl like Anthony (which mostly didn’t work). Ugh. Liz and Anthony are more to blame than ANYONE for the disintegration of that marriage, not to say that Therese is blameless.
ONLY AN UPSIDE DOWN WUSS. It is my kryptonite!!
They all suck anyway. I much would have preferred Liz to get together with, well, just about anyone else.
I like Michael and Deanna the best I think. Michael reminds me a bit of you. Well, except that you didn’t wait until you were a bazillion years old with two kids before you got published. ;) Oh, and that he’s a dude, and you’re not (Unless something has happened since I’ve last been home) and a billion other things. So um, yeah… maybe it’s only the fact that he wrote a book that is similar. *lol*
Well, I’m off to watch the telly.

I don’t think Michael is a PAF! He’s standard idea of what some people think of authors with families being like, I think.

He IS a PAF. The plot summary of his novel is on the official website and it reads like Canadian PAF fair. Sry2say, bb. Maybe PAF writers are like PAFFY Michael. Heh.
